Curses. So, work is having a theme Xmas party. Normally I love them, but the theme is SNL, and I never watched the show. So; I'm looking for a John Candy or Jim Belushi character bit I can familiarize myself with and costume myself as.

"U.S. focus on climate could ease financial crisis Thu Oct 9, 2008 12:56pm EDT
By Deborah Zabarenko, Environment Correspondent
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - If the United States focused on curbing climate change as soon as a new president took office -- or sooner -- it could help pull the world from the financial brink, environmental policy experts told Reuters.
"Skyrocketing energy prices and the financial crisis have been a wake-up call that something's got to change," said Cathy Zoi, chief executive officer of the Alliance for Climate Protection, which is chaired by former Vice President Al Gore.
"My very strong belief is that we need to reorient our investments toward this transition to a clean energy economy, and it will be the engine of growth for getting us out of the doldrums that we've gotten in right now," Zoi told the Reuters Global Environment Summit this week. "
I believe that could be a major changer as well. |

I've been keeping the OMG baby posts to a minimum, but out of deference to y'all so far away, some factoids.
currently at 32 weeks. All systems go, baby is normal seeming to the best of all observations. 3.5 lbs, which puts her in the 43 percentile. (square in the middle)
A. is doing well, having some trouble sleeping.
All good. |

Well, they fucking passed it. So much for those calls to everyone who represents me. Theoretically they added more oversight, but I want some details on that. I love the part where I get taxed more heavily to support it when I don't have a home, mortgage, or investments. |

All I want from politics. Really, at the heart of it.
1. Leave me alone. Let me do whatever I want in my house/on my land.
2. Let me wander through public without harassing me, even if I want to wear outlandish whatever, unhindered. I don't want to have to show papers or interact with officials at pretty much any point.
3. Don't devalue my degree. Extrapolate that to "let there be a public education system that allows our children to remain competitive globally". More science, more maths, more classical education. Better penmanship.
4. Build/Maintain roads/bridges/infrastructure.
Other than that, I want to work my job, pay a fair share to support the above, have what fun I can, and enjoy my friends and family. |

From Cnn.
"McCain's dramatic promise to suspend his campaign until the crisis was resolved in Congress was on one level a heady attention-grabbing move, but it could also be viewed as a gamble in the face of political necessity. His poll ratings have sunk noticeably in recent days, as voters leaned toward the Democrats in a time of economic worry. The suspension was designed in part to commandeer an issue that has belonged to Obama and try and show above-the-fray bipartisan leadership of the kind independent voters appreciate.
Why either Obama or McCain would be needed in Washington to help work out a deal is unclear. Neither man sits on the Banking committee; much of the difficult political horsetrading is taking place in the House, not the Senate; and the outlines of a deal are becoming fairly apparent, even if all the votes for it have not materialized.
Both candidates will be joining Bush at the White House for a meeting of congressional leaders this afternoon, something McCain had called on Bush to organize yesterday.
The meeting is expected to be brief. "
*Emphasis mine. I hate it when the campaign chess games get so apparent it seems the candidates either think we won't notice (which is insulting) or don't care that we notice (which is frightening). :P |

Long time no hurrah, and while I meant that as an appy-polly-pogy for not posting in awhile it's pretty damn well appropo in general. Spent half of July and most of August depressed (largely work and finances) and all the time since a few days after DCon in a horrible state of anxiety. DCon itself was a high point, except for family drama that was crappy.
Thanks to the uber awesome Chrysis and Secondhandwhore; it was lovely lovely to see you at length. (I'm sorry again I crashed out so early!!!!). Chrysis is a wonderful houseguest, if you are curious.
She also managed to procure some of the annoyingly rare Lemon Hart 151 Demerera Rum, so we had authentic 1936 Zombie Punches (complete with Chimney glasses and mint garnish) in our hotel room. And what a room. I think they thought Bax was a guest or something. When he asked for a pullout bed we got upgraded to a full suite, with floor to ceiling windows, full wet bar, double doors, dressing room....it was freaking HUGE. My best times at the Con, aside from the lowbrow art show, were spent in that room or in the hotel downstairs.
At one point Slinks brought absinth, and we watched Dr. Horrible, and madness.
Panel wise I didn't do much. (I spent most of sat depressed due to family crap). Saw filk singers Paul and Storm, who I really like now. (At one point they called Jonathan Coulton on the phone, had him talk into the mike, then hung up on him. Massive props).
I think next year, which in my head is designated YEAR OF THE NEW BABY, I will only go to DCon for one day of drunken debauchery and save the money we spent on food and board for other uses.
I further think that in a few years A. and I may well start a tradition of picking a nice hotel in a new city, reserving a block of rooms, and inviting everyone we know to meet us there and party through a weekend of drinking and debauchery. I think I need more debauchery in my life.
And I hate that losing weight and drinking heavily don't mix.
Had a nice little shindig at the homebar this weekend. 26 people drank 9 gallons of Goombay, if you grok that.
I miss my out of state friends quite terribly today. :( So hugs and thoughts to all you hip cats and kittens. |

We're in trouble, friends. And scandal rags on the checkout aisle at the grocery store are using "1 Dollar cheaper than People magazine!!!" as a selling point. And the cost of salt is going up. SALT. Just saying.

CW - 297.4 LW - 299.8 SW - 307.4 (if the charts reset) 342 (if they do not)
My new 8% loss goal is 283.7
Good and bad all around this week. Didn't exercise all week because of healing. Walk/jogged a 5k Sat morning (42:45, like 15 seconds worse than last time). The course was pretty, but had a winding uphill gravel bit at the end that felt like it lasted for ever, and during which I got lost off the trail for maybe a minute. Oh well. Then QJ helped me move heavy things, and I had a slice of pie and some brownies and 2 coors light tall boys, but no dinner. (Went to the 11th Annual Country Fair. Saw Travis Tritt). Calorie-wise awful, but exercise wise great. Meh. Sunday went to water aerobics only to find they didn't have class. :( We bought all the right things at the grocery store this week. So. Starting to get back into swing of things, I hope.
A little concerned that I've said "about to start being really serious again" like 4 times lately. I think I'm more maintaining than losing, and while good, that is suboptimal. Hrm. |
